OUR STORY
The story of My Mum Made It started when fresh out of high school, Brisbane based founder Nyree Leckenby turned a vintage bed sheet into a handmade dress using her mum’s sewing machine. After receiving many compliments and a boutique request to stock her designs, she left her interior design studies to pursue fashion full-time. The brand’s name came from her playful response to people asking, “Where’s your dress from?” : “My mum made it.” That moment sparked a journey from local markets to a global fashion label built on creativity, individuality, and intentional design. The brand has a globally recognised name known for its nostalgic-meets-modern it-girl aesthetic and commitment to detail. With storytelling at its core, My Mum Made It creates collections that continue the journey of the MMMI girl: expressive, thoughtful, and always in tune with her own rhythm.

Manufacturing /
Since 2015, we have consciously partnered with a dedicated manufacturing team in China — the same team that helped bring our very first collection to life. Our relationship began when we met our production manager, whose father, a former seamstress, personally sewed those first pieces. Over the years, this partnership has grown alongside MMMI, allowing us to work closely together and oversee every stage of production. We ensure all workers are paid fairly, operate in safe and clean conditions, and are never subject to stressful or exploitative environments. All factories we work with have signed our ethical agreements, reflecting our shared commitment to responsible production. Our team in China also manages our warehouse operations, shipping directly to customers to reduce unnecessary transport and lower gas emissions. This hands-on approach ensures that every MMMI piece is crafted with integrity, care, and respect for both people and planet.
Future /
It is our mission to continue our journey further in becoming a more sustainable brand by usage of natural dyes on our materials, continuing to offset all carbon usage, and refining all design elements. We will continue to learn and evolve throughout this process with accountability and transparency.
